Alas Solidarias is a Spanish NGO of pilots who aimed to provide logistical support to other NGO operations in areas such as the Western Sahara, Niger, Morocco and Iraq. I accompanied them on their first missions in order to document their work and provide publicity material for future work. The very first project took place in Niger. We flew 14 hours in a 10-seater Cessna aircraft over the Sahara, with emergency fuel stop in Tamanrasset included, to the Nigerien capital Niamey. From their we flew to Maradi, a town in the south of the country, where the NGO contacted with the Save the Children project underway in the region. Unfortunately, the Niger project proved nonviable and was abandoned. For more from my work with Alas Solidarias, follow this link.
