Ollos Que Non Ven (Out of Sight)
English | Castellano
2013-2014 "Ollos Que Non Ven" is an open-air public portrait exhibition. The subjects of the series are all victims of the preferred stocks scandal "preferentes". The series consists of 13 black and white portraits of individuals from Vigo who have still not received all or part of the savings they lost. 13 faces that represent thousands affected in Galicia and hundreds of thousands in Spain. 13 faces that represent a banking system which blatantly did, and does, what it likes with impunity. 13 faces that represent each one of us. The name "Ollos Que Non Ven", as well as playing on the famous saying "out of sight, out of mind" is also a direct reference to the publicity slogan of one of the main culprits, novagaliciabanco bank. My aim with this exhibition was to address my own ignorance of the situation, as a consumer and as a member of the community, and to question our attitude as a society towards a financial system that at best is disconnected and at worst, rotten to the core.
